Site Based Decision Making Council Policy Review
The School Leadership Team will be reviewing the Homework Policy. At its last meeting, the Council recommended that we not include third graders on the Honor Roll. The discussion currently is related to whether or not behavior/study skills marks should be considered when listing students who made the Honor Roll. If you have thoughts or suggestions on this issue, please contact any of the members listed above, or the parent representatives on the SBDM Council (David Cohen – dcohen@mmlk.com or Rick Smith – rick.smith@fayette.kyschools.us)
Title I
We have been notified that Glendover qualifies to receive federal funds under the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, Title I, Part A, for the 2009-2010 school year. As a school-wide Title I school, we may use Title I funds, consolidated with other federal, state, and local funds, in order to upgrade the entire educational program. Glendover SBDM Council has decided to use the bulk of this money for a primary Reading Intervention Teacher.
We look forward to your involvement in aschool activities and your child’s education. You will receive notices and information throughout the school year to keep you informed about the progress of your child and the status of the school in making progress toward helping all children meet high academic standards. We also look forward to your attendance at school meetings when we discuss the development, revision, and implementation of our school-wide program plan. Dear Glendover Families,
A Soaring Eagle “thank you” to every adult and every student who contributed to the smooth opening of the 2009-2010 school year. It truly takes each and every one of us to create a child centered, family friendly, atmosphere supporting academic growth, good citizenship, and sensitivity to the many different cultures and backgrounds represented at Glendover.
Our Site Based Decision Making Council has a long tradition of serving the needs of our students and supporting our teachers. For this reason, I encourage you to attend the SBDM Council monthly meetings and to serve on committees as the opportunity arises. Your support is essential to the success of your child and contributes to the success of all students at Glendover. Together we can continue to create excellent educational experiences for all Glendover students. This year’s Council teacher representatives are: Holly Hestand, Lauren Rister, and Carol Royse; parent representatives are: David Cohen and Rick Smith.
Results of the CATS assessment given last spring will be released to the public on September 15. At that time Glendover teachers and staff will begin analyzing and discussing the results. The results of these analyses and discussions guides us as we design measurable goals to inform our School Improvement Plan and the educational programs and strategies we utilize to reach these goals. Our mission this year is “Differentiating Instruction: Meeting the Needs of ALL Students.” Our goals specifically focus on closing the achievement gaps between our students who qualify for free and reduced lunch and those who do not. I deeply respect the dedicated staff of Glendover Elementary School. Our talented educators view the multifaceted challenges presented daily in the profession of education as an opportunity to refine their teaching styles and strategies with the sole focus of choosing to do what is right for ALL children.
Glendover families, by supporting our classroom teachers, have created not a dynamic learning environment for our students and have brought innovative ideas to the building through their dedicated involvement. Your efforts positively impact the lives of student. Children need to know that their families are welcome and comfortable in school settings and school-sponsored activities. My hope is that we continue to reach out to all families at Glendover so that every event unites our diverse community.
